I got a new Dell computer last Thursday running Windows XP Home
Edition. I find XP to be an interesting operating system, and I'm sure I'll
gradually learn more about it in the months and years ahead.

One thing, though. I seem to remember reading when XP first came out
that it hardly ever crashed or froze up, as compared to the crash-prone
Windows 95, 98 and ME.

Well, I've been tinkering with my computer quite extensively for four
days now, and it's froze up on me at least 5 times. I'm not throwing in the
towel or anything, just wanted to mention that.

Did it freeze BEFORE you tinkered?

Hi HistoryFan,

Many freezes are video-related. I've been round and round between the
Microsoft drivers, the Dell drivers and the NVidia drivers for my Inspiron,
trying each new version as it's come out over the last year and a half.

Did you know that Dell has web-based forums at
http://delltalk.us.dell.com/supportforums? If the freezing is related to
your video setup then you might find some mention of the same problem there.

No. The freeze up occurred once when I was installing a digital
camera, and a few times while using the Roxio CD Creator program.
