I didn't see you message in time for your 45 minute deadline, but:
Most of the scanners I have installed come with software to scan
documents and email them as a graphics image. Some even come with OCR
(Optical Character Recognition) software to convert typeset and other
mechanicaly printed material to text or a popular word processing
application's file format. Those OCR programs work better with a clean
sharp scan of the original text and the resulting text needs to be
carefully proofread, as they have a tendency to missread some material.
Check your start menu for applications associated with your scanner. You
may find a "Scan to Web" or "Scan to Email" application there. Many late
model scanners have buttons on their control panael to bring those
appications to your screen automaticaly. Scanner control panel options,
procedures and software bundles vary depending on your scanner model and
manufacturer.
