Are you really? Well email uses OE, dear. And this is a *HARDWARE* group -
your question has nothing whatsoever to do with hardware.

Hi Ken,

Go to view in OE and select layout. Disable the preview pane. Then you will
be able to highlight the mail and delete it without opening. The preview
pane was responsible for the only virus I have ever had on my machine.

Who made you moderator of this group? Get a life and stop giving stupid
answers to people who answer innocent questions. Not everyone is as
smart??? as you.

It's not a case of being 'moderator' - the original question was OT. And do
learn how to proofread "people who answer innocent questions" PMSL!!

Your rhetoric has taken up more time than the, "OT", OP. It was such a
simple matter that it makes no difference.

Even if it is OT you should have the courtesy to reply with an intelligent
answer. I realize that is not easy for an idiot like you to do. GET A
Life!!!!!

No, it sounds like not having current virus definitions or
ihaving improperly configured (or nonexistent) virus
protection. Are you saying that you wouldn't have opened
the message in question anyway?

The deal was, I had just installed a new HDD and had not gotten around to
changing the preview setting nor installing my AV program. Even at that, a
virus has to be known by the AV people before they can write a definition
for it. By that time, it may have already infected millions of machines.

In answer to your question; No, I would not have opened the message if I had
been able to delete it. Fact is, it opened as it was downloaded, because
there were no unread messages, and infected my machine.
