e-mail on outlook

How do I change the setting when I check my in box so that
I have to double click on e-mail for it to open!! It opens
automatically and is driving me crazy!!

I don't think that is the correct answer. I want to be able to see the
messages in the preview pane, but I don't want them to be marked as read
automatically. They need to be unread untill I change this myself manually.

In that case Tools-Options-Other-Preview Pane and uncheck the box that says
"Mark read in preview pane...."
