Sam Woodson

Running Windows XP with Service pack 1 and all current updates according to
Windows Update.

When I click on an e-Mail link on a web page, instead of opening a New
Message in Outlook, I get an error message:

Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not
properly installed.

Then 62 instances of Internet Explorer open and they all say "No page to
display"

In "IE" Tools - Internet Options, there is no program to select for E-Mail

Also, under "Set Program Access and Defaults" on the Start Menu, then
Custom, and Choose a default e-Mail program, there is only 1 box to choose
which is "use my current e-mail program"

Also, Spell Checker in Outlook Express does not work. I get "An error
occoured while the spelling was being checked" Otherwise, every things runs
just fine. I also have Office 97 installed, I'm wondering if it tried to
install the standard Outlook and caused problems?

How can I reinstall (or Fix) Outlook Express withOUT losing all my current
files, etc... Is there a quickier/easier way than Exporting all the folders,
and contacts? Or without having to re-enter all of the account information,
and 4 user ID's, etc...

Thanks in advance!

Hi Sam,

Go to Start | Run and type this command, with the double quotes and spaces:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

and then make sure that OE is selected as the default mail program in both
IE and OE.

If that isn't enough, see this article:
"Send To" and E-mail Links Do Not Work Using Outlook Express as Default:

Spell checker:
The following application copies spellcheck engine and create the registry
keys required:

Hi Sam,

Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 urlmon.dll. Then go to:
IE/Tools/Internet Options/Programs/Reset Web Settings.

Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 actxprxy.dll and then repeat the
process for regsvr32 shdocvw.dll.

Check your settings here:

Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types. Scroll down to
URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol/Advanced/Edit.

Under Application used to perform action it should read:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome

Set Outlook Express as default mail client - Start/Run and type in:
MSIMN.EXE /REG

Restore OE to the E-mail List in Internet Options (Row 9)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/restore_oe_client.reg

Restore Hotmail, Outlook and OE under Programs (Line 250)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Reset OE for Send To , Mail To , Send Mail (Line 64)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

For the Spell Checker:

Go to Start/Run/EXPAND X:\i386\CSAPI3T1.DL_ C:\CSAPI3T1.DLL (Where X is your
CD-Rom drive letter). And then copy it to: Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof

Or download the file here: Replace the Csapi3t1.dll file

An error occurred while the spelling was being checked.
