Subject: a Microsoft patch
From: "Donna" <[email protected]> Sent:

I have received this same message several times on my
yahoo account. It comes in at work and at home on my
husbands computer. We have received messages from
microsoft at home and they don't usually come this way. I
would like to know if this is legitimate as well
Helen

(copy of Donna's question - my question is the same.)
I have received 3 e-mails stating that I should open and
install this Microsoft Patch for viruses. I just wanted
to know if it was "for real". The e-mail address is
(e-mail address removed) it is an attachment, patch.exe
(9.38)KB, this one I received three times and then once
was patch.exe(9.40)KB Please let me know if I need to
put this patch on my computer or is it a scam. It is
awful that you always have to worry about that. Thanks,
Donna

Hi Helen -

Microsoft does not send attachments. Microsoft directs you to a link to
read more information about a patch and to download it from there. We do
not send out attachments in our alerts. If you have a question about the
legitamacy of an email or a patch, do not open it and visit the following
website for all of the latest information about protecting your computer.

http://www.microsoft.com/protect

Hope that helps!
