This relates to a closing down problem using XP Home SP2 and all updates. PC
is Athlon XP2400 with 1GB of memory.
Recently when closing down I am seeing a dialog box saying IXEPLORE is
closing then not responding, sometime I have to click on "end now" many times
before Windows eventually closes down. I'm not certain how long but I'm sure
that it is less than a week.
Today I attempted to close down immediately after booting, I saw the dialog
box appear briefly but did not have to interact before windows shut down.
My firewall is Zone Alarm free and Anti Virus Avast Pro.
I have Spyware Doctor & Spyware Blaster active to block malware.
I have discovered that when using an e-mail link to a forum (Two tested)
that closing the web page leaves an instance of iexplore.exe showing in the
processes in TaskManager. Opening a web page direct and closing it removes
the instance of iexplore.exe in the process list.
This results in when closing down a non responding case of iexplore.exe to
be ended for each e-mail link used.
Is it due to the latest updates I wonder, it didn't occur before.
