E-mail default problem

In Win XP, Internet Explorer won't automatically select Outlook Express as its e-mail default when I click on the envelope icon in Explorer. When I open Internet Properties/Programs to activate the default, it shows that the e-mail default option is empty, but Win XP won't allow me to select or write in Outlook Express to fill this option, even though it says I should be able to do this. Additionally, Outlook Express appears as a default in the Newsgroup slot even though I did not select this option and I cannot delete it either. There does not seem to be any instruction, FAQs or Help codes to resolve this problem. Anyone have a work around for this?

You and I, pal. I have exactly the same problem. It just started today, so I think it's something new
I'll try making a Windows Update to see if that helps. I'll let you know

If you find the solution before, pls. let me know
