E-Mail Connectivity

I utilize earthlink as my isp. I have chosen to make
outlook my e-mail default.

I have been unsuccessful at this. I worked with
earthlink and they cannot remedy the connectivity issue.
They tell me it is a software (microsoft) issue.

When I try to send an e-mail I get the following message:

"The operation failed. An objest could not be found."

Any suggestions?
