I am relatively new to the world of computers and have a
new computer. I am having a problem getting my e-mail
attachments. I get a warning that says "OE removed
access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail:
FW_ (the name of the attached file). Can anyone out
there help me retreive my e-mail attachments?

1. Start Outlook Express.
2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
3. Click the Security tab, click to clear the "Do not allow attachments to be
saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" check box under
Virus Protection, and then click OK.

If you are sending .EXE or .COM or .SCR files, try renaming the extension to
something innocous like .OLD and put a brief note in the e-mail that the
recipient has to change the file extension back again from .OLD to .EXE or
whatever it was. This gets a LOT of files past the filters and this
technique is particularly good if you are at someone else's machine and you
don't want to mess around with their settings.

As you have stated that you are new to computers. I'd like to warn you
to never open ANY un-solicitated E-mail attachment, even if it appears to
come from someone you know and trust. Most virus's these days will infect
a system, then send copies of itself out to names listed in the infected
systems address book without the users knowledge. So, That attachment
from your wife, may actually be a virus from your wif'es infected
computer.

Also, New virus's like SWEN.A will also pick a random name from that
address book to place in the outgoing mails "From: " feild. So, that the
infected file that appears to be from your wife is actually from your
Uncle Bill or Aunt Polly or just about anyone else.

If you are not expecting the file, contact the person that sent it and
verify that they really did send it to you.
