e-mail addresses disappeared

An hour ago I sent an e-mail to several addresses in my Contacts folder.
Now, something very strnge has happened: All of the e-mail addresses of all
my contacts have disappeared. The names, street addresses, and other fields
are still there. It is as if someone has gone through and deleted just the
e-mail addresses.

This is Outlook 2003.

Any idea what may have caused this and how to fix it? I suspect the e-mail
addresses are still in the .PST. I ran SCANPST.EXE and it found no errors.

Could this be related to the following anomalies in my Contacts list?

1) The first few entries are empty except for a '()' (open-close brackets);
2) I canot delete these or any of the legitimate entries in the Contacts
list from, for example, the "Select Contacts" dialog.

There is more to this story. You did more than just send an email to these
recipients. You did not even specify by which method you selected these
recipients. From what view did these addresses disappear? What happens when
you examine the individual Contact record of these recipients?

The is a symptom one might see if one deletes an entry from the Address Book
interface.
 
I picked an existing e-mail and forwarded to several names. The names were
chosen by clicking on the address book icon.

The individual contact records are where all the e-mail addreses disappeared
from.

Two other pieces of information:

If I go to the address book and select a name. When I try to seelct
'Properties' I get an error dialog saying 'invalid ENTRYID'.

If I go to Contacts and add a new contact that contact CAN be deleted from
the address book.

It appears the address book is corrupted. Is their a tool to fix it? Ot that
at least shows its internal structures?

Never manipulate contacts via the address book interface.
 
Are you saying that all of your Contact Records have no valid email address
after this action? Is this a Contact database that was stable and that you
had used with no problem for an extended period of time?

Correct.

The only oddity is with the address book. Those blank records at the top of
the list (when listed alphabetically) and the error dialog saying 'invalid
ENTRYID'.

The only other probam that accesses the database is Verizon's wireless
connect (to sync. with a Motorola Q cell phone). I presume that uses
published APIs

Have you ever heard of this before?
