I am trying to connect to a computer that is on a dial up
connection. I have set the remote computer to accept
incoming connections but how do I even connect to it if I
can't get the IP?

Are you not getting the IP after creating the DUN with the remote computer?

Since a dialup ISP in most cases assigns a dynamic IP to the PC, you might look into using one of
the dynamic naming services that map a fully qualified domain name to the IP. I did that when I was
on a dialup ISP and wanted to connect to my home LAN via a PPTP VPN tunnel or a Remote Desktop
session. In my case I used (and still do) a FREE service from No-IP.com.

The No-IP.com software runs on one of my XP Pro boxes and on a time schedule basis contacts the
No-IP.com servers. The No-IP.com servers then know what your IP is and maps that to a fully
qualified domain name. That information is then propagated over the public internet. You can then
call your PC using the fully qualified domain name. It works very well.

The remote computer is not a server. It is an XP pro
machine. I have not found any information on how to
enable DUN on this machine.
Any suggestions?

Configure RAS on Windows XP

Configure the desktop computer for incoming connections

1. Click Start, and then Control Panel.

2. Click the Network and Internet Connections icon and pick the Network Connections icon.

3. Double-click Make New Connection for the New Connection Wizard.

4. Select Advanced Connection under Network Connection Type and click Next.

4. Select Accept incoming connections and click Next.

5. Select the modem from the list of devices, and click Next.

6. Select either of the options for allowing Virtual Private Connections, and click Next.

7. Check the users you want to be able to authenticate when connecting to the desktop from the
device, and click Next.

8. Ensure the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) check box is selected, click Next, and then Finish.

Call the phone number of the modem the PC is connected to from the remote PC...

Make sure your modem is setup for Auto Answer...
