Dynamic IP

I have learnt that the ISP sends a IP to the home users every time they
logon their network. The IP sent may not be the same as that sent last time
and will not change until you log off. I check the status of LinkSys
configuration page and found it seems to confirm it. However, I use
http://www.whatismyip.com and http://checkip.dyndns.org to check my ip and
got strange result that I got different IP on each checking while I am
connecting to my ISP. The result was different from the one in my LinkSys
configuration page. Can someone advise why it happens and which one is
correct.

Thanks,

Scott

The whatismyip.com and checkip.dns.org addresses are correct and should be
the same when run from a PC on your local LAN... Are they?

Beyond that I use a free service from No-IP.com to map a fully qualified
domain name (FQDN) of my choice to the IP assigned by my ISP. I then call my
home LAN using the FQDN versus the ever changing IP address. See
http://www.no-ip.com for more details.

help...

Sooner,

Thanks for your reply.

I tried both IP checkers behind the broadband router and the IP shown is
public ip. Of course it is wrong for the private ip using on this computer
and I am at loss if the public ip assigned by my ISP is right or wrong as I
explained earlier - it should not be changed all the time.

Following your instruction, I got my domain name tied with my dynamic ip and
it works correctly. However, I need to resolve above issue as well since I
often access remote computers that behind broadband router using dynamic ip.

So setup a static IP on the private LAN for the PC you want to remotely
access. See my response to your other post on this issue...
