Hello,

I am looking for a dynamic DNS software (client) that will read my external
IP given by my ISP and relay it to the DNS server of my choice for dynamic
DNS updating. I see a pile of products that do this but they are all
associated with a company that hosts DNS for you. Does anyone have any
suggestions.

Thanks in advance,
Sol.

If you have Windows NT 2000 or Windows NT XP, then the facility to do this,
via the Dynamic DNS extension to the DNS protocol, comes in the box as part of
the Microsoft DHCP client.

Most dynamic DNS hosting services do not use the Dynamic DNS extension to the
DNS protocol (because vendor lock-in prevents the content DNS server from
being able to perform Dynamic DNS securely with all clients). The reason that
all of the tools are associated with specific companies is that all of the
companies have their own individual update protocols.
