We are currently using a Windows 2000 server and Microsoft XP Pro Clients. We are using DHCP services on the server, so each workstation is allocated an IP address automaticallay. We would also like the DNS server addresses of our internet service provider to be given dynamically also

What I don't know is how to configure the server to ensure these are given at each login. Can anyone help

Regards, Nigel.

First question - are you using Active Director8y?

You can add anything you like to the DHCP scope so it's dished out to DHCP
clients...

This requires both client and server configuration. The Local Area
Connection Properties' Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties have to be
configured to get DNS info from your DHCP server. I assume that this is
straight-forward enough that you don't need a detailed description, but let
us know if you do.

And, your DHCP server has to be configured to pass out DNS info. From the
DHCP MMC, under your DHCP servers Server Options branch, choose Configure
Options. You can use either the General or the Advanced tab. Item 006 is DNS
Servers. Check the checkbox, then add the Server name or IP address, and
order them as appropriate. While you are there, there are other options
worth setting, such as WINS (044), any gateway, time server (004), et al.
Windows help is pretty clear and thorough on all of this.
