Hey all, the modem in this thing says its OK

And is working properly. The diagnostics
test out a OK. BUT the only prob is, it reboots
when I use the modem. BUT the system doesnt
reboot, if I connect through a LAN.

It's a Dynalink modem (PCI). The last time it rebooted
it didnt generate a event? Why I dont know. I replaced
the memory yesterday with the same ram, that I
suspected was faulty. What could be causing the reboot if it says the modem
is ok and the diagnostics
are OK?? If it's the driver (which XP installs), if they're
faulty. How can I reinstall this driver again
from within XP? with a non faulty/corrupted driver?

I tried the updated driver for this modem, from the
Dynalink site. It was WAY too slow. And lagged.

So, I DON'T really want to use that driver.

I have a feeling this modem maybe using a memory
address that may not exist. Is this possible?

Can this be changed somehow through XP??

Memory range for this modem atm is FEAE0000 - FEAEFFFF I/O DFE0 - DFE7 and
IRQ is 22.

It says no conflicts, under device manager

Any info appreciated

Try this.

Turn off the computer.
Remove the modem.
Power-on the computer again, it will remove the modem and
all settings for it, but will leave ur dial-up settings
there.
turn off the computer again.
Re-Insert the modem to a PCI slot, doesn't matter if the
same port or not.
Power on the computer again.

Update the drivers to the latest, if it is too slow,
contact ur ISP and obtain a "dial-up initialization string"
 
Will try that Dexter. The drivers I use
now are better than the latest ones on the site.

The drivers on the site are slower than the XP
drivers! And they take 30 secs - 1 min to think
about doing anything!

Come to think of it, I have a feeling this firewall
has something to do with the reboots (NIS 2003).

Most likely cause is incorrect device drivers or poorly installed [physical placement] modem card.

If no updated drivers are available, then open the cover and relocate the modem - away from your ethernet card if one is installed - or away from the Video Card.

Won't be a RAM [memory] issue.
 
The LAN is builtin so will be nowhere near the modem.

I think I'll take the mobo in to replace it since its still under warranty.
