Windows XP DX9c installation problem

Trying to install DX9c. It wont install, keeps telling me after I have run it installation complete (which if a few seconds, too quickly) however after reboot I enter DXDIAG and 9b is still there.

Any ideas people?

Are you using This One or a games CD?

What OS?

XP Pro SP2 but its still only has 9b installed. I dl'd the 9c from MS site.
It is not a legit copy tho! However never had a problem installing it before.

Pissin me off to be honest m8.
