Im planning to get a new graphics card soon ... anyone has an idee of when
the first DX10 graphics cards will be available?
the first DX10 graphics cards will be available?
Any highend card purchased from nVidia or ATI today should be DX 10
compliant.

There is NO DX10 compliant card today. They are "compatible" the same way
a old GeForce ti4200 is compatible with DX9, but they won't support any of
the new DX10 features, such as shader model 4, geometric shaders and so
on. The first DX10 compliant chipsets will be Ati R600 and Nvidia G80,
both expected after this summer.
p.bes
Don't really need the shader 4 at the moment, just wanna be able to do
hardware rendering on DX10
You will be able to do hardware rendering of DX10 with any moddern card, you
just won't have the newer hardware accelerated features of enhanced shaders
and whatever else DX10 expands upon.
saying no acceleration is just wrong, you just won't have hardware
acceleration of DX10 specifics. A perfect example is all of those people
with DX6 or 8 cards running DX9 games but just not as fast as those with a
DX9 specific card.

lesser card. The same will be the case for DX10.
DirectX 9 Complaint means that all the key functions of DirectX 9 will work especially the Shader Model 2.0. DirectX 9 Support is
defined as most functions of DirectX 9 will work as hardware acceleration but some advanced functions such as Shader Model 2.0 may
not work. Others are Non-DirectX 9 Support.
Windows 95, NT are Non-DirectX 9 Support. Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, 2003 can be DirectX 9 Support or DirectX 9 Compliant which is
dependent on the video card or chipset.
Intel's GMA 900+ graphics in its chipset 915G and 925G is DirectX 9 Complaint. However Intel's Extreme Graphics 2 in its chipset
865G and 875G are only DirectX 9 Support.
ATI Radeon 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800, and X800 are DirectX 9 Complaint. The notebook with ATI's M10 is DirectX 9 Complaint. But the ATI
9200 is only DirectX 9 Support.
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200, 5600, 5800, and 6000 are DirectX 9 Complaint. NVIDIA's iForce for AMD64 is DirectX 9 Complaint. In addition,
GeForce 6800 supports Shader Model 3.0.
The XGI video cards are DirectX 9 Complaint.
Via and SiS video cards may be DirectX 9 Support or DirectX 9 Complaint
