Is a DVR used to record cable TV programs susceptible
to viruses like a regular computer? I have a Scientific
Atlanta 8300 that is operating erratically.

It's theoretically possible. Is it connected to the net? Does it run a
version of windows? (WinCE for example)

I have high speed internet on the same cable as my digital
TV from Cox.

A while back, a friend of mine was 'playing' with a borrowed DV player. Just
to see what would happen, he put in a CD with PC-type *.exe files on it.

Well, the DV player tried to load the new software update it was convinced
it was getting, and turned into a chocolate fireguard! Luckily, it was still
under warranty, so back it went to Dixons with a very innocent "It just
stopped working"
