Ok ladies and gentlemen,I hope you all have had an enjoyable entrance into
2008 whatever you were doing,and I wish you all a pleasant 2008.
Ok,here is my question. I have a CCTV type DVR which has a caddy to hold a
hard drive, which does the recording. I have had problems installing the
device via a usb cable onto my Hewlett&Packard 235a tower. It will chime
in,but after 20 seconds or so,it will chime out on it's own accord. I am
thinking perhaps the hard drive needs to be formatted. So by removing the
side panel of the tower,I connected the hard drive and followed the procedure
in disk management. Done that, disconnected the HD from the tower back into
the DVR. Once again,I hear the chiming in and out,but occasionally I get a
hardware icon showing in the taskbar with a message stating malfunction.
Clicking on that leads me to a window showing the list of usb ports, and one
is showing unkown device. I do have a usb driver cd which I have
installed, and have noticed the file system of the cd is CDFS. If I have this
correct,CDFS is based on Linux. Will this be compatable with Windows? thanks

Of course it is not compatible.
The USB driver CD regardless if for Linux or Windows is
not the issue.
If your Universal Serial Bus (USB) controllers are installed
and the PCI host ctrl/root hub etc are recognised then it is
the "CCTV type DVR" device, which is confirmed by the
"unknown device" being the drive/caddy.

GoTo the site of the OEM/supplier of the "CCTV type DVR"
Click the Support/Help/FAQ/Tutorials/Guides links.
And follow the instructions for connection/Installation,
I suspect it will all work just dandy if networked.

As I understand it, the file systems used by Windows are not compatible
with Linux file systems. Also, if your DVR is supplied by a cable
company, you definitely won't be able to do this.
