Recently installed a monitor whose native res is 1680X1050. Using an
FX5200 (128Mb) card, it hits that res with VGA, and looks fine.
However, top res in digital mode is 1600X1024 - unless I take special
measures trick it.^ The point of which mode to use is somewhat
moot, as both look virtually identical with the apps that I run.

Yet I am curious as to whether digital demands more resources of the
card. And perhaps this is a driver issue. For example, I noted that a
former monitor could reach its native res of 1440X900 with one driver,
but not with another.

Knowledgable sources have said that video memory capacity does not affect
available res choices, so I won't be updating outgoing AGP technology.
The MB does not support PCI-E, but is fast and dependable for my needs.

Knowledgeable comments appreciated.

If your monitor is a LCD you should always use the native resolution
(CRTs do not have a "native resolution") otherwise you will get "scaling
artifacts" as your monitor will attempt to translate your chosen resolution
to it's native resolution.
