I want to watch some DVD's on my PC but I would also like to save a couple
on the hard-drive.

How much hard drive space have you got?

Are you hoping to save the DVDs on your hard drive in the original DVD
format taking a few GBs per DVD?
Try DVDShrink - freeware from http://www.dvdshrink.org/where.html

Or are you going to compress the DVDs and save a movie in say DivX format -
which would bring most DVDs down to about 700MBs for reasonable quality
audio and video?
This is generally more time consuming - requiring you to un-encrypt and copy
the DVD to your hard drive, then you need to re-compress both audio and
video to say DivX video format and MP3 audio format.
You could also re-compress a DVD to MPEG format and get it's size down to
~700MBs.

Visit www.videohelp.com for some info and guides.
Anyone know how I do this with some of the software programs?

thanks

Also, I am having issues watching DVD's on my PC. Is it because of my video
card and Pentium 3 I am using??

What software are you using to watch DVDs?
What video card (or onboard video) have you got?
How much RAM have you got?

Post again with full specs of your pc.

Martin.

Hi,

thanks for your information. I am new to this DVD thing on my PC. Great
with CD's though and pretty much everything else. I would like to compress
the DVD but when I burn it on a DVD-R and view it on my player or PC I would
like it to look and sound almost like the original.

I am also having issues burning back-ups of my important company files with
this burner to a CD-RW. Any clues there? This worked flawlessly with Nero
and my old CD burner.

Anwersing your question:

I am using WinDVD to watch them, which is not working. (just skips) I am
also using Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD. This all came with my burner that I got
for XMAS. Can I use Windows Media Player not that should make a difference
anyhow.

I am running:
P3 @ 600mhz
384 megs of SDRAM
Nvida Geforce 2 MX 400 - video card

Hope this helps.
