Reloaded my software weeks ago and now I'm trying to burn a DVD...all
my software either crashes ro chugs forever with no effect.

I recall a switch to set somewhere to allow a DVD to write but now I
can't find it.

Help?

If it's the case that "all my software either crashes or chugs forever
with no effect" then you have serious problems that you need to deal with.

If you're not able to determine the cause(s) for these problems, I
suggest erasing your hard disk and reinstalling everything from scratch.

Sorry, meant to say by DVD burning software wouldn't work. Everything
else is fine.

However, a cold boot fixed the problem. Thanks anyway.

The question was, where is the check box that allows a CD/DVD burner
to be used as a writable drive? I've seen it, but now I can't find
it. XP help is not helpful,

The drive's firmware tells your computer the drive is writeable. Nothing
more you need to do.

Perhaps you're thinking of a setting in XP where you can enable and
disable writing for a given drive. This setting is sometimes used when
XP's built in CD burning functionality interferes with software you have
installed.
