dvdrw dual format drive isnt working

please help, when i put in any kind of cd dvd or cd rom in the hard drive it
doesnt read it. And when i try burning music onto a cd it says , No
compatible recordable or rewritable devices could be found on your system.
 
i take it you mean put a cd or dvd in the player not the hard drive!!!, what
is the make and model of your cd/dvd recorder, and are you sure its a recoder
and not just dvd/cd rom drive???

Sounds like the drive has gone bad.

Fortunately, they're cheap.
