I have a new (2 months) laptop (tablet type) running Vista home Premium 32
bit.
I have watched a couple of DVDs. The box/manual say it has "Supermulti 8X
DVD+-RW w/ double layer support".
I have read several posts about deleting registry entries.
I haven't seen one with the exact symptoms mine has so I didn't want to
delete anything yet. It is not listed as a drive in My COMP ; it is not found
at all in device manager either. The tray won't open (except w/ paper clip)
and the buring software (3 or 4) all try to do the task. They ask me to
"select drive (or burner)" and the drop down menu is blank.
I got the video (2min 56 sec) off the camcorder no problem and have spent 5
hours attempting to burn it to DVD.
Running Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
1982 MB RAM
200 GB Hard drive
AMD Turion 64 X 2 (blah blah do u need the rest?)

TIA

Dude,

I have a sony Vaio laptop (vgn-n320E). My DVD, and Video adapter driver
both came up with Code 31 "device not working properly" just one short day
after buying my shiny new Vista (Sony Vaio). The registry edit worked perfect
for me. Here is a link to the one I used:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/242550-32-matshita-850s-device-problems

I got brave enough ( the UPPERFILTERS was not in Registry only LOWERFILTERS)
to delete Lowerfilters (after making backup) and the DVD drive has appeared.
The problem I believe is solved.
Thanks!
