DVDRW drive can't open programs

I have an Emprex DVDRW+- drive that was working perfectly until I had to
re-install Win2000. Now it can see the CD's and even open folders on them,
but every time I click on a fiel it says it has a problem with 32 bit
something. I tried re-installing the drivers and even upgrading the
firmware. I also tried uninstalling the device and letting Windows find it
again. I even went into the registry and deleted anything I could find (that
it would let me). Nothing seems to work.
It does run programs on boot up CD's so the drive still works.
Do you think it's a dll problem, or a problem with something in Windows that
I can re-install?

thanks

Have you tried the drive in another machine ?

Also have you changed any jumper setting or cable configuration on the drive.
Upgrading the firmware can sometimes be risky as im sure you are aware

Thanks for the advice. The drive worked outside of Windows so I looked for
another option.

I actually found the problem now. The Creative Labs Disk Detector became
corrupted. So after unistalling it and re-installing the software for my
Sound Blaster, my DVD-RW drive was able to work again.
