Tony

Just recently installed Pioneer DVD-R. The drive is
invisible, after restarting computer, all I have to do is
to go to "Add Hardware", as soon as the computer finishes
search for installed hadrware, the drive becames visible,
is not that I can't do this every time time computer is
restarted, but it is annoying.

Did you install the software that came with the DVD-R. Such players are not
natively supported by XP.

And my response should have read such drives are not natively supported by
XP though players also require additional software as well for the purposes
of playing movie DVDs.

Yes I belive so, it came with Ulead Suite, disk did not
have any drivers, exept for win 98 drivers

I think you should contact the manufacturer of the drive. They know it
can't function without the proper software. While XP has a built in CD
burning function, that is not DVD-R and XP's integrated function does not
natively support DVD writing, that requires third party software.
