Hi All,
Not sure if this is hardware related as it may just be a Win XP Pro
problem? Anyway..............
I have a Pioneer DVR-109 DVDR writer. Before that I had a BTC DVDR
writer. Both drives had the same problem so I don't *think* it can be
the hardware itself.
It makes no difference what DVD or CD ROM you put in the drive, but
the volume label never shows unless you reboot with it in the drive
already. Here's an example. Say I was to install a game containing 2
CD's. (I will use Railroad Tycoon 3 as an example) You put in disc 1
and it does its stuff: CD Volume should be lets say, RT3_1. The disc
will work ok but of course no volume label. Then it asks for disc 2,
Volume label RT3_2. If in Windows Explorer you eject and remove disc 1
, and you then click on the DVD/CD drive, (whether disc 2 in or not),
it still *thinks* disc 1 is in there and lists the contents as if it
were? To get disc 2 to work, I have remove disc 1 and then refresh in
Windows Explorer, click on the drive again so that it says the usual
"Please insert a disc into drive D". Then I would put disc 2 in the
drive (Still no vol label), then click on the drive and sure enough it
will show the contents of disc 2. I can then bring up the installer
again and click "ok", and it will continue to install without
problems. If it is one of those games that sometimes ask you to put
the first disc in again then...............repeat all above!!
This started happening months ago and I have no idea why. Anyone here
have any ideas why Win XP Pro would stop showing DVD/CD Vol labels
etc? Its a bit of a strange one I know, and I have done a little
research in google etc and didn't really find the same exact problem
with anyone else. Many thanks if you can suggest anything to get it
working as it's supposed to. This is on a reasonably recent install of
XP Pro too. It was the same before I re-installed!! TIA.
