i was able to use the dvd player before but now its
telling me that i need a decoder, and when i ask for help
they send to a site where i have to buy it.

Hey, i think i know your problem. I believe that you have
accidentally deleted your decoder. If you have got your
dvd player as an upgrade (you purchased it separately from
your system) then you think you have your decoder in an
installation cd that came with the dvd drive. If it came
with your system, preinstalled, try checking your recovery
disk(s). I hope that this helps.
