I just added a dvd burner. When i put in a dvd it reads and plays it. When I
put in a blank dvd it does nothing. It does not recognize a disk in it. I
tried several disks. It is a lite on dh20a4p. I am using windows xp service
pack 2. I did download VLC media player and dvd shrink for software to play
and burn.
thank you in advance. Phil

Windows XP contains no built in way of burning DVD discs. If you insert a
blank DVD, Windows XP does nothing. If you want to burn DVDs you have to
install a third party DVD burning utility.

I installed dvd shrink and avscopy as burning software. when i put in a movie
it plays the movie. why wouldn't it at least recognize a blank disc in the
drive when inserted?

thank you. Phil

It will only do this if the DVD burning utility modifies Windows behavious
to detect a blank DVD and offer a selection of things you can do with it. I
know DVDshrink doesn't do this. I am not familiar with avscopy but
modifying the windows autoinsert notify routine is by no means universal.
Can you actually burn a DVD with it?
