Hi !

I'm not sure it's the right place to ask it buty i've got a problem with my
dvd hardware (which is on my computer, of course) : windows tells me i can
only change the "zone" (?) 4 times : could we change that ?

If the drive is unlocked yeah. Try software like DVD Genie - that can reset
the counter if the drive is unlocked, and it can auto set the region when a
dvd is inserted etc etc ....

You have 3 choices:

1. go to the firmware archive at: http://forum.rpc1.org, and download
a RPC1 (region unlocked) firmware for your specific drive. Note that
such firmwares aren't supported, as the MPAA and the DVD consortium
requires all official firmwares to be locked after a certain number of
changes. On some firmwares, the drive will still report that you can
only change the zone X times, but that number will stay the same no
matter how many changes you put the drive though.

You would still need to change the region code on the playing
software. You may need a program like DVD-Genie to set the player's
region code if the DVD player software complains about the drive being
region free (sometimes it will do that).

Aside from the dire warnings about hosing your drive if you don't do
it right, the firmware flash usually won't work if you've used up all
your region changes. If you've done that, you kind of have to go with
option2.

2. You could use an on-the fly RC management program such as
DVD-RegionFree. The program costs $40USD. There's a demo version if
you want to try it out: http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-region-free.htm

It doesn't really increase the number of region changes though. I've
not used it, but based on the description, it just sits between the
hardware and software, and modifies the region code reported to the
software, so a region change isn't needed.
