we've had a similar problem with a batch of laptops with Toshiba
DVD drives in them ... except they'd read dvd's but not CD's.
Only cure was a warranty replacement drive from Toshiba ..

Well , this one read CD's and Backed up Copy's of CD's but no
DVD's whatsoever...
the DVD-ROM is made by BTC and I went to their Website.. they dont have
anything
for Windows 2000 I know that DVD was working in a different machine... but
not in this one... ?

Make sure that you have a DVD decoder (software) installed. Is W2K the
original OS? Do you have the manufacturer's application software on CD? My
laptop came with Windows ME, but I wiped that and installed W2K. The DVD
decoder isn't native to W2K, so I had to reinstall the DVD software from the
Sony CD.

I do have the DVD software that came with the DVD-ROM
and I installed it ; but still Windows 2000 is not recognizing
any DVD but if I put a CD-ROM it will recognize it
I even download a copy of WinDVD ; still the same....
