dvd writer wont read dvd's

I have a hp 300i comes up as a cd rom and will not read anykind of dvd .It
keeps using a driver that cam with my xp pro sp2 .Also windows lists it as
the wrong dvd drive it comes up as a 300n.

Most if not all hp cdrom-rws/dvd-rws,come from liteonit.All liteonit hardware
such as these also have firmware updates from liteonit.com.Simply R.click the
drive in "my computer" properties,get the model nos,it should be the same as
retail liteonit products.Download the firmware.
