DVD Writer will not burn

I built a new box, with Vista64. My DVD writer (LG Super Multi, Model
GH22NP20) will read DVD's, CD's, etc., but will not burn DVD's (using Vista
app, not other software). My previous box had no problems performing burn
tasks (Phillips DVD burner). Could the problem be the media I am using,
i.e., it is 4x, LG burner lowest write speed is 6x., or could it possibly be
a bad drive. Any help would be appreciated.

Please provide failure details.
What, exactly, do you mean by "will not burn DVD's..."?
Does it attempt to burn and fail? Is the drive recognized by the built in
burn applet? Is blank media recognized? Have you tried burning with third
party software? Can you burn CD's?
Also, if attempts to burn produce error messages, please quote them.
These kinds of details will allow those who wish to help to provide batter
targeted suggestions.

Doesn't even attempt to burn; no Vista record dialogue box appears asking
for task to perform. Vista will only perform read functions. I do not have
any third party software installed; Nero 7 Essentials came with the drive,
but I am under the impression that software does not work with Vista64. My
previous box performed burn tasks flawlessly with included Vista apps-I
would rather use that than third party software that may be buggy. Anyways,
I think the problem may be hardware related or chipset related. Another
forum suggested to try Intel chipset driver updates. Additionally, no error
messages appear, i.e., the drive is not being recognized as a writer drive.

I think that's a CLUE.

If it's not being recognized as a writer, then it WON'T WRITE.

no I-Tunes install.

Whats really weird is the following; Inserted a previous recordable DVD
(with some various files), went into Explorer and copied a file off my HDD
and pasted it to the recordable DVD..and the task was completed (drive DID
write)....so I used an exact same blank disk and the new media won't work
(Vista doesn't even give the option to format)...dialogue box comes up
stating "Windows cannot read the disc..etc"...this is very weird...I keep
thinking that it may be a bad drive..but as indicated before, previous
working drive (Phillips) will not work. It seems to be some kind of
hardware/BIOS glitch...was thinking of maybe looking for a firmware update;
but the fact that a previous working DVD drive worked on another Vista box
but not on this new one has me negating that procedure. I've been doing a
lot of searching for answers...nothing similar to my situation. I may
contact the motherboard manufacturer...

I installed Nero 7 Essentials (even though I heard it was troublesome with
Vista 64)-the software disc came with the LG OEM DVD drive; the write
functions now work my drive (though very picky on media) so all is well. It
just threw me for a loop that my previous Vista64 machine burn engine worked
so well with the Phillips drive that was in it, and I thought that the LG
drive would be similar. Thanks anyways.
