dvd writer problem - cannot view

hi, i have a typical problem.

I cannot view recordable CDs or DVDs and also cannot write/burn CD or DVD.
the only thing i can do is I can view a CD and a DVD(non-recorded ones like
movie dvd or software cds). please help. what to do to make my write to write
cd/dvd.

i got sony laptop pcg-fr415s model. it got this pioneer dvd-rw dvr-k12d dvd
+/- writer. this can write cds and dvds of both formats. once i tried to
connect to a nokia phone to copy photos from it in to my laptop. but itwas
not recognizing the phone. so i tried to install the drivers of the phone. i
got error while installing. anyway i couldn't copy them to my system. Later i
tried to burn a CD or DVD. but i couldn't. after copying 99% or some where
near. it stops throwing some message. now i'm not able to view any cds or
dvds recorded on my system. i have recorded a dvd and not able to view that.
when i insert it nothing happens. when i try to copy something using
dragndrop software or any other software. it displays insert dvd. i tried to
view a recorded cd from my friend but couldn't. when i see the size it shows
0 free space. but when i insert CD it says a blank cd and opens options to
write. but when i try to write it says cannot append. It seems that I cannot
view recordable CDs or DVDs and also cannot write/burn CD or DVD. the only
thing i can do is I can view a CD and a DVD. Please help me.

Try opening device mgr,locate the drive,select,uninstall,close out,shut down
computer,do not restart.Once powered off,either or/and chk jumper pins on
drive,correct if needed,install to diffrent IDE connection if
possible,change other
drive pins also if needed.Moving to last connection with a hd closer to m/b
works
fine,just set it as slave with the hd as master.Boot up computer when
finished,
xp will reinstall it on restart.
