DVD Writer - No decompressor?

I installed the NEC Nd-1100a (Firm: 1.5) on my Win2k (SP4) pro system
and although the BIOS recognises this (as a HP 300n drive) I can not
play DVDs on it.

I have tried a variety of software but the all hang.

I have tried update windows drivers but they are the latest.

Something to do with decopressor???

Help appreciated as I may have to return the drive.

Problem solved with DirectX 9 download.
