dvd won't play

Hey,

I was trying to watch Small Time Crooks (not likely relevant)
on my PC... and nothing runs... in fact it seems to crash
any of four dvd-playing software programs about 4 times out
of five... it's odd because every other DVD I've played on
this computer since XP has been fine... and the thing ran
on my room-mate's machine.

Any ideas?
