a question for the experts, I have a DVD rom and a burner installed with win
xp pro, when I try to play a DVD with windows media player I receive an
error code stating I do not have the proper codec's etc. ( they have been
installed already) but if I use win DVD or power DVD it works fine, my
question is, can windows media player be repaired/fixed?
thanks in advance

Media Player does not contain its own DVD/video codecs. It "borrows" codecs
from other installed software.

It *should* be picking up the codecs from your installed WinDVD and
PowerDVD but it is not. Did you update the Media Player version after the
codecs were installed? If yes, have you tried reinstalling the programs
with the codecs? Also under Tools> Options> File Types do you have DVD
Video checked?

If you need further assistance with this, suggest you visit the Media
Player newsgroups on this server:

I found my problem, it was because DVD xcopy platinum was installed, after
un-installing it everything worked fine, just thought I would let you know
in case this happens to someone else. Thanks again for your valued help!!
