Is there a great difference in quality between DVD's and CD's.
I have burnt a couple of my movies onto Cd's but the quality is not the
best, so I am wondering if it is worth buying a DVD recorder or is there not
much in it.

Thanks
Rick.

DVD will allow you to use less compresstion in order to fit the movie on the
media. With a CD you must compress the video alot to have it fit on.

If you used a high-compression codec like Xvid or DivX to
create movies, and the bitrate was very high, then you
could burn those to a DVD as a data DVD, not as a DVD
video. They would be very high quality, but would not be
playable on a home DVD player. The problem with creating
DVDs with a burner is that burners at present only allow
you to burn single layer discs which is effectively half
the amount of data compared to most commercial DVDs. So
to create a DVD player compatible DVD would mean that if
the movies were of significant length then they would not
fit on a single DVD at full DVD quality using the MPEG2
codec used on DVD movies. So basically, a DVD burner
would be good as a DVD fits ~ 4500MB as opposed to 700MB
that a CD can hold - you can thus create a video that is
5 times better quality.
