My DVD Rom will no longer play DVD's, it plays CD's ok but does not recognize any DVD format in the drive (d). I believe this is a codec problem. I have WIN DVD 2000 pre-installed and also found a copy of POWER DVD 5 bundled with a graphics card i bought, which i have now installed. Still, none of the two can play my DVD's.

I'm a bit of a novice with this stuff and have tried various forums but can't really understand how to resolve this problem.
The codec's, im told, are something to do with this but i don't know how to repair this.

I have a HP pavillion 710 PC, with XP home, and a recovery partition, but, do not have the application recovery option , only system recovery (very thoughtful) and no XP disk (even more thoughtful).:(
Can anyone advise on how i could "fix" this.

have you tried reinstalling Power DVD? cause i have the same thing except i had some problems with the region thing, so i just reinstalled it and it worked, maybe it could work for you?
