Hi
I have 22 parts of a TV series all in .avi that I want to put on 4
DVDs - 3 with 6 episodes and 1 with 4 episodes

If I were to use DVD Shrink, is it possible to create a start menu to
jump/choose any episode?

No,
But if you use a program like Avi2Dvd you could do that
http://www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareAvi2Dvd.html

You can also use a program that convert your AVI files into
MPEG2 files and then use a DVD authoring program.

VSO DivxToDVD 0.5.2b (last freeware version)
http://www.aplusfreeware.com/categories/Audio-Video/vsoDivxToDVD.html
avi to mpeg2

3 DVD authoring programs
GUI for dvdauthor
http://www.videohelp.com/~gfd/

DVDAuthorgui
http://www.videohelp.com/~liquid217/dvdauthorgui.pl

DVDStyler
http://dvdstyler.sourceforge.net/

You could also test this one,
I think this a all in one program (converter and authoring)
Video DVD Maker free

Thanks for all the info CoMa
This is all new to me and it's a bit like a mine field, trying out
these applications and not knowing what the results will be
I was using ConvertXtoDvd and got good results, only thing was there
was no start menu to choose any episode
So if I had an authoring tool to work with ConvertX that would be the
ticket. I'm trying Video DVD Maker free as I write, but it's woefully
slow. Oh well, onwards and upwards

You are welcome Martin,
glad I could help you in a small way (I hope)

By the way,
I found this all in one prog.
Maybe this can be of some use.

Satsuki All2DVD
http://yatoshi.com/en/index.php?p=all2dvd
Free to use for non-commercial use

Satsuki All2DVD is a GUI to transcode any video file into
a DVD (with a menu) iso file ready for burning. This software
is an one-click-application, you only have to drag & drop
the video files (divx, ..) and you will get an iso.
