-r is according to documentation is based on the CD writing software and +r
is supposed to built from the ground up. If you buy one or the other then
you can only use the same type media. I have a +r and have noticed that -r
has cheaper priced media. I have been more than satisfied. However, there
are DVD recorders being marketed now that will support both media. Both
type media seem to play on regular dvd players.
