DVD-RW PROBLEM

I have a sony vaio rs 322..I tried to write a dvd disc but I could not do it.
When I put dvd inside, it reads but it does not write a new dvd. I used dvd-r
disc but it did not work either. Speed is also matching 4 x. I could not
figure out what I should do. If you could help me fellas, I would be grateful
 
What are you trying to write to it with, ie which app? Windows does not
write to dvd's you need something like nero/roxio.
