I replaced a CD-RW drive with a Pioneer DVR106 DV-RW drive, which is
performing strangely and I don't think it has installed properly. When I go
into Windows Explore it shows as DVD-RW(E. But when I load a disk into the
drive it changes to CD DRIVE (E (and the icon is different) and when I
clik on it no files are displayed. If I write click on the drive and go to
Properties it shows Type: CD Drive, File System: RAW, and 0 bytes for
capacity, used and free space. Sometimes, rebooting and going into the
CMOS setup (even without changing any settings) will allow it to read one
disk (I have installed several programs) but after I take that disk out it
repeats the problem described above when I put in another disk.
When the drive shows no disk content I right click on the drive icon, go to
properties, then hardware, then click on the DVR106 and then volumes, then
hit 'populate' and it displays the disk details. Then I go into Explorer
again click on c: drive then back to e: drive and it displays the disk
contents. Then I can double click an executable file and it all works.
I think this is probably a windows problem but don't know where to start to
identify it.
cheers
