DVD-RW firmware cannot be re-flashed??

Was looking at
http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/English/e_downloads/e_firmware_dvd rw.asp
to see if there is newer firmware to maybe upgrade to.
Noticed the following disclaimer

"NOTE !! Once the drive has been upgraded to new firmware , it can NOT
changed back anymore ."

Why would you not be able to flash the drive with the previous
firmware if you have it?

Just because it is newer doesn't mean its necessarily better as many
found out during the early Geforce driver releases. THe newer flash may
overwrite other areas that the older flash does not.
 
Hi,

I read about that caveat from Lite-on and flashed anyway. There seemed to
be no problem. However, after reading some problems with others using the
lite-on 411s I came across information of someone who developed a little
program that would override Lite-on's downflashing rule and apparently solve
the potential problem.
