The original DVD Rw drive I had quit working all of a sudden although the
Device Manager says it's working properly. I noticed the problem while
trying to create a DVD in Pinnacle Studio v9. The manufacturer could not
figure out the problem and suggested I send it to them to be replaced. We
tried everthing. Meanwhile, I bought another drive and still had the same
issue while trying to creating a DVD in Pinnacle. I tried to burn a picture
to the disk using Roxio and it worked initially but now the drive will not
read or burn anything at all. The Device Manager says it is working properly.
I figured if this happened to two different drives, one of which is brand
new, the problem is probably with Windows or the computer itself. Has anyone
ever heard of this problem? Can someone help me figure it out?

I have basicly the same problem but with 3 different drives. 6 months ago I
fixed the problem. The problem was when you went to the hardware manager, the
drive was installed as a SCSI device for some reason. I reset it to an IDE
device and it started working fine again. The hard drive just went bad on the
computer so I replaced it and had to reinstall the system. After
reinstallaton of operating system and all software I had the same problem
again. This time both the dvd rom and the dvd burner and the hard drive are
all listed as SCSI. My problem is I cannot remember how I fixed it the last
time. Any ideas?

Hi My DVD a Micro Advantage and CDYamaha CRW 2200 series both quit working in
the last week or so. They are present in the Bios and The device manager but
are not present to programs or the My Computer windoe in XP Pro latest
updates. These have been working fine for over Two years with all writinbg
programs befor the latest updates. I used to get the message and error
reporting of device drivers outdated. I think that MS got tired of these
reports and banned these from the OS.
I went out and bought a NEC DVD certified compatable with MS XP. but still
doesnt work.
I cannot repair or add drivers No CD and the device add wizard says that I
should keep what I have. Manufacturer says that drivers are in XP and not
their problem ??
Please someone help

UPDATE:

I finnally got my drive to read CDRoms and play DVD's and audio CDs but it
still won't burn. Roxio gives errors that say I/O Communication error and
Track writer error. To get this far I uninstalled the driver in device
manager for this drive then shutdown the computer and swapped IDE connections
with my CDRom drive. I don't know if it was the swapping or just unplugging
the cable that did the trick. Both drives will read just fine now but the
DVDRW will not burn.
