I recently removed my scsi dvd ram drive from the system.
It was listed as the "F:" drive. Now my DVD/RW drive will
not read any disks. The drive is listed as the G: drive
and is correct (i.e. dvd/cdrw drive). The F: drive icon
no longer appears so I go from E: to G: in the My Computer
listing. Here's the interesting part...If I place any
disk in the drive before booting, XP will then play the
disk, no problem! I can remove and play or record
normally. I tried removing the drive through Device
Manager several times and letting XP detect the drive but
that resulted in the drive still being detected as G: and
does not fix the problem. Any ideas would be
appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the advice. I did manage to change the drive
letter to F: however I still have the same problem. When
I insert a DVD the drive's icon will change from DVD/RW
to DVD-rom but the disk is not read, i.e. the system
reports 0 bytes used and available. The same holds true
for a CD-rom disk. Any other ideas?

Thanks!
