The Dvd drive has recently stopped working and shows no disc whatsoever
inside the drive when there is one in it. I tried to restore the computer to
an early date that did not work...I tried to insert the Windows XP Device
disc so I could reinstall the driver but it dosen't read that disc...any help
appreciated.

Go to Start > Run and type in: devmgmt.msc
and press the Enter key. After the Device Manager
window opens, scroll down to your DVD/CD-ROM
drives, click the "+" to expand, then right-click on
your DVD Drive and select Uninstall. You will
be prompted to reboot your computer, so reboot
and Windows XP will reinstall the DVD Drive.

Yeah..I did that however it still didn't recognize the disc. I can hear the
disc spin but after it's done spinning I double click on the drive to view
the contents and it's still not there..I'm thinking it might be something
with the lens or something internally.

What type of disk you tried? Blank CD, Blank DVD, store bought CD/DVD?

DVD drives can have "hardware" failure and the only way to get it to work may
be by replacing the drive.

I've tried a store bought DVD I think it could be a problem with the drive I
hear the disc spin and then there's a dun noise and it continues in that
order constantly. How much would it cost to replace a DVD drive?
