information and found that I have problems with Primary
IDE controlers. Message said: This device is not present
(Primary IDE controler) not working properly or does not
have all the drivers installed. I have fitted a new dvd
rom but the drive still doesnt exist so the computer
says!? Any help/answers would be much appreciated, so as
to stop my son learning any more swear words!!!!!

Have you tried installing the drive on the Secondary IDE Controller to
confirm that it is the Primary IDE that is the real problem?

.I have had the same error code for both primary and
secondary IDE controlers. The installation guide for the
new dvd rom says utilise secondary . I need to know what
the error code: 10(OxA) means to do something about it.
Unfortunately I have no idea. Please help if u can.Your
reply is much appreciated.Cheers.

Have you tried going into the Device Manager selecting the IDE Controllers
and uninstalling them, then rebooting the PC. XP should redetect and
reinstall the drivers after the reboot.
