DVD-Rom no longer functions

I have Windows XP home version. I installed the software for Ipod and at
the first try of importing the music to ITunes from my DVD drive the screen
froze after I had imported 3 titles and so I had to turn off the computer.
At the second try it worked and I imported enough for 11 hours. Now the
DVD-Rom no longer works.It is present in Explorer but when I place a cd of
any type in the drive nothing happens and when I go to the Device Manager and
double click I am told to put a cd in the drive although there is one already
there. I have the following Systeminformations report. Doesn't help me
though Laufwerk F:

I'm British and having the system in German isn't very helpful either

PS: AFTER I HAD IMPORTED MY MUSIC TO ITUNES AND WENT BACK TO ITUNE TO LISTEN TO IT I GOT THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE " ITUNES HAS DETECTED THAT IT IS NOT THE DEFAULT PLAYER FOR AUDIO FILES: DO YOU WANT TO MAKE ITUNES THE DEFAULT PLAYER FOR AUDIO FILES? I SAID NO: COULD THIS HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE PROBLEM: ACCORDING TO THE DEVICE MANAGER THE DVD PLAYER IS ACTIVE AND READY TO USE: SORRY IF ITS A DAFT QUESTION BUT AM A GRANDMOTHER AND DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT COMPUTERS! I COULD DO WITH A CLUE OR TWO:
